I've heard a lot about the Chi, but I've used friends' Chis and I feel like it does nothing in particular to resist humidity. Maybe nothing can do the trick, but regardless, what is the best? What is the BEST straightener to resist humidity?
This is a hard question to answer. The reason is that different hair types respond differently to humidity. If you already have naturally long straight hair it is going to behave differently than if you have tightly curled hair.
In general, hair loses its hold in humidity. A ceramic straightener can help though. Some of the good brands to research are CHI and Sedu. The both operate at high temperatures. The Sedu is also made from Tourmaline, a ceramic that is known to release negative ions when heated.
Why is that important? Well, the hair cuticle is shaped kind of like a long pine cone. When you wash and dry your hair, the cuticle is opened. That causes more friction and tangles are likely. But when you use a ceramic hair straightener properly, the cuticles close causing each strand to become smoother. That means less friction and less likely to be bothered by humidity.
For some hair types, being styled with a flat iron will last all day, even in high humidity. Some others can only last a few hours. No joke here, I heard that in Austrailia you can 'rent' a flat iron from a vending machine for like $2 a minute.
Ok, for you, I would make a hair appointment on a humid day and get your hair professionally straightened with a ceramic straightener. Check your hair every hour if possible and watch how it responds. If you get good results, then buy a CHI or Sedu because they produce fantastic results and both are in the same price range and of course they have a super reputation. What is the BEST straightener to resist humidity?
A Chi or a Sedu
chi!! i own one but i also use product in my hair.
i wash it and then i blow it out.
i then add some product like biosilk or john frieda's frizzease. (prefer frizzease b/c of less alcohol content). just use a dab
and then i straighten it from root to end.
and apply a little more product.
i only use a dot though...
THE FLATIRON DOES NOT RESIST HUMIDITY BUT THE PRODUCT DOES
i have a sedu i got it off folica.com and i love it :] keeps my hair straight all day
i dont believe that the straightener really makes a difference. the product you use might make a difference. since straightening your hair only makes a physical change and only lasts until you get it wet again, as soon as a lot of humidity (which is water) gets to it, your hair will start to go back to its state before you straightened it.
If you want a flat iron that best works against the problems from humidity get a Sedu but you also need to get some products.
I personally use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum.
