I have a Revlon styliX. It's red and white, kind of wide, but it does wonders for my hair. I turn it to the highest heat, and let it get realy hot, and it works realy good. But also, what you may need to do with you hair is get some hair product for before you straighten it so the heat doesnt damage your hair. There are certain ones out there that can help protect your hair and at the same time help the straightener do its job.
general rule is, if its under 70 dollars, its going to fry your hair, and its really low quality.
My favorite brands are GHD, Sedu, Solia, CHI, and FHi.
GHD's are amongst the top of the line, but they're also amongst the most expensive. They keep your hair PIN straight for the whole day, and prevent your hair from breaking:

Solia is an AMAZING brand. It's cheaper than its competitors while offering superior quality, plus the plates are made to align with each other, so no pulling out strands of hair. The plates are also really good quality, so you get perfectly straight hair quickly without damaging your hair:

Sedu is one of the more popular ones out there. While offering high quality, the price is also high. In my opinion, it works just as well as the Solia, except at a higher price:

CHI is the most popular, and overrated brand out there. While it is a good iron, its highly overpriced, and i have seen many defective ones out there that are potentialkly dangerous. Generally, i'd stay away from buying one unless its the only thing available to you:

FHI is another one of my all time favorites. The iron itself is stylish and lightweight for easy traveling. the plates are great, so they leave your hair straight, without frizz or frayed ends, plus, you can make some pretty nice curls with it too:

Of course, all of this information varies on the iron you buy (some are defective, some are perfect), and the texture and thickness of your hair.
good luck!
