I would also recommend using a 1 inch instead of 1 1/2 inch, because the 1 1/2 doesn't do curls very well.

I personally used Gold N Hot while my sister uses the CHI's....They work the same if u ask me. To achieve the silky look it all depends on the health of ur hair. Keep it lightly oiled so its still bouncy, use a heat protectant, and i use this Motions Shine Serum that works as a heat protectant,de-frizzer, and shine...I love it... But yeah silkiness is achieved with heathy hair
As far as home relaxers Ultra -Sheen Supreme is a good home perm.
